SOCIAL STRUCTURES CONFRONTING POVERTY IN ATHENS MUNICIPALITY

PRAKSIS - in collaboration with KLIMAKA (Development Carrier for Human Exclusion), as coordinator, the Municipality of Athens, DOCTORS OF THE WORLD and EQUAL SOCIETY (Society for Equal Opportunities), and within the framework of the relevant Act entitled "Social Structures tackling poverty in Athens Municipality" which is co-financed by the European Social Fund - is involved in the operation of a Social Network. In this context PRAKSIS enhances the functionality of the Day Center for Homeless which has been operating since May 2012. The Center is located in the center of Athens (26-28 Deligiorgi Street, 4th Floor, tel. 210 5244574) and is funded by Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

SOCIAL STRUCTURES CONFRONTING POVERTY IN THESSALONIKI MUNICIPALITY

PRAKSIS - in collaboration with ARSIS (Social Organization for the Support of Youth) as coordinator, and Thessaloniki Municipality - participates in a Social Network Structure under the Act entitled "Social Structures tackling poverty in the Thessaloniki municipality" which is co-financed by the European Social Fund. In this context PRAKSIS enhances the implementation of a Social Pharmacy (operating since 2004) at Thessaloniki Polyclinic (1 Arkadioupoleos & St. Demetrius Street) and also the operation of an Open Day Center for the Homeless in Thessaloniki Municipality.

ATHENS SOLIDARITY CENTRE AT FROURARCHIO

In Athens Solidarity Center framework, PRAKSIS implements two programs:

Medical Service Extended which is an extension of medical services and the pharmacy, provided the Polyclinic of PRAKSIS.

Employability Center where free support for unemployed is provided by job seeking services.

IMPLEMENTATION OF AN  INTEGRATED PROGRAM TO CONTROL HIV INFECTION IN HIGH RISK GROUPS

The purpose of this program is the early diagnosis of HIV infection and the increase of the accessibility to medical care, and with aim to reduce the incidence of HIV infection in medium term, through targeted (vertical – horizontal) actions to groups with the highest prevalence.

"CITIZENS OF THE WORLD" RADIO PROGRAM FOR THIRD COUNTRY CITIZENS

The aim of "CITIZENS OF THE WORLD" was the production of radio programs on topics directly relevant to the citizens of third countries. Through the implementation of the program, a coordinated effort was made to familiarize immigrants with the radio and media production techniques. Thus, 24 immigrants and 20 nationals were offered training in radio techniques and community media to ensure their active participation in the production of these programs.

EFODIA ZOIS, VIMATA ZOIS

PRAKSIS and ROCHE Hellas launch the 2-year program «Εφόδια Ζωής, Βήματα Ζωής», providing support to the educational needs of more than 400 children. The program targets those families suffering from the results of the severe economic crisis.

ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF UNACCOMPANIED MINORS (UAMS) IN GREECE

International Organisation for Migration (IOM) implemented a programme of voluntary repatriation and reintegration of unaccompanied minors who wish to return to their families in their respective country of origin. As a partner in the programme, PRAKSIS has undertaken actions to identify and inform unaccompanied minors about the programme in the cities of Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras. For that purpose, streetwork was conducted in order to identify, record and inform unaccompanied minors. The streetwork groups consisted of social scientists and interpreters.

The program is based in European and international welfare laws as well as in public medical practices concerning sexual transmitted diseases (STD) in detention centers.

DRIVE - Transnational NGO cooperation in Differentiation, Refugee Identification and Vulnerability Evaluations for Referral

The aim of the program was to develop networking and capacity building between Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), local service providers, international organizations and Member States, promoting the capacity of the participating bodies to identify and promote refugees and asylum-seekers coming from mixed sea origins (including mainly children, women and victims of trafficking and psychological trauma) towards processes of protection provision.
