PROGRAMME KIDS NEXT DOOR/ MOBILE SCHOOL THESSALONIKI
In an effort to combat the ever growing phenomenon of child labour, which is directly connected or/and identified with poverty, destitution, exploitation and abuse of children's rights, PRAKSIS has been implementing in Thessaloniki the programme Kids Next Door. Within the framework of this implementation, a special room serves for the reception of the children who are encouraged by their family or others to work or/and to beg. On a daily basis, specially trained volunteers provide psychosocial, medical, educational and recreational services, aiming at empowering the children and their families, their rehabilitation as well as of their families, while at the same time trying to get the State involved so as to prevent the phenomenon of child labour. Moreover, the programme aims at increasing school enrollment and monitoring the children's progress at schools.
Child labour is a grave indication and evidence of the problems, such as poverty, high unemployment and the inability of the school community as well as of the educational system to keep these children within the educational process.
