ATHENS - THESSALONIKI POLYCLINICS

The heart of PRAKSIS....

PRAKSIS Polyclinics in Athens and Thessaloniki offer free prime medical care to socially and economically excluded and marginalized social groups. Specific services provided are health services, psychosocial support services and awareness / mobilization of the wider community.

The Medical Service of both Polyclinics are provided by physicians who are either on salary or volunteers: general practitioners, pediatricians, gynecologists, dentists and Pharmacy (in Athens) and general practitioners, gynecologists/obstetricians, dentists, dermatologists, ophthalmologists and Pharmacy (Thessaloniki).

All services are provided for free and without discrimination to people who do not have access to the public healthcare system. We offer primary care and, where necessary, direct medical, legal and psychosocial support. Our constant target is to provide high quality integrated healthcare services to people who lack free access to the public healthcare system.

The Polyclinic offers clinical examination capabilities - according to any current medical diagnosis. In case of not being able to treat the patient, direct reference is made to the National Healthcare Service structures or specialists who work with PRAKSIS. There is also networking with other NGOs which are active in the health sector. Regarding chronic diseases monitoring, there is an opportunity to conduct specific laboratory tests (hematological and radiological) in collaborating with medical centers. Finally, doctors are directly involved in all activities promoting Public Health.

An integral part of the provision of primary healthcare is the Pharmacy. It can supply to patients free medication necessary either for the treatment for an acute issue, or for the continuation of their systemically medication. The operation of the pharmacy is based on the offer of medical supplies from sensitized individuals or entities. The medicine is collected, recorded, classified and made available to patients under totally safe and transparent procedures. At the same time, any surplus of medical products is donated to other operators, in order not to be left unutilized until the expiration date.

The Paediatric Clinic refers to children belonging to vulnerable groups that face social and economic exclusion and lack of access to health services. Pediatric examination and treatment of acute health issues is provided - including medical referrals where necessary - monitoring of chronic cases, as well as issuing individual health cards for pupils. Vaccination is carried out on a monthly basis.

The Social Services of PRAKSIS Polyclinics, staffed by qualified personnel, provides daily services to all people without exception. This section operates both on a advisory and a referral basis. The most frequent requests regard housing, healthcare, referrals, employment counseling and/or employment inclusion. The main objective is the holistic treatment of each case, not only a symptomatic or an intrusive case management but also a proactive one.
