LEGAL AID CENTERS (ATHENS - THESSALONIKI - PATRAS)
Legal Information Center
Within the framework of the programmes in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras, LICs operate on a permanent basis. They offer free legal counseling to all vulnerable and socially excluded groups of the population, i.e. to Greeks who are uninsured or individuals who use drugs, ex-prisoners, migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, as well as victims of trafficking. These services are advisory in nature and offered in the form of individual support sessions. The main concern of our legal service is the prompt and accurate information to beneficiaries concerning their fundamental rights and freedoms, as well as their substantial support in cases that involve the violation of their rights by bodies and institutions of public administration.
In this context, our activity is not limited to the provision of consulting services; rather, we often promote the support to beneficiaries’ requests through telephone and written interventions at both the national and international level, through the physical presence of lawyers in public services and institutions to support their claims, and generally by undertaking all necessary initiatives to the benefit of our fellow human beings. In all these instances, each case is constantly monitored (followed-up) until the final processing of requests.
Furthermore, legal services are also provided and aim at special groups of individuals, such as newcomer asylum seekers, refugees and single-parent families. Additionally, in line with PRAKSIS approach in the field of integration of third country nationals into local societies, we offer free legal counselling to migrants and members of their families who reside legally in the country.
The Drop-In Centre of Patras offers similar support services to unaccompanied minors in an individualized manner. The operation of this particular centre provides, inter alia, legal support and assistance to one of the most vulnerable groups of the population worldwide. These services are offered directly through the identification of unaccompanied minors during their stay in the city of Patras, while close and sustained cooperation between PRAKSIS and local authorities safeguards fundamental rights.
