Press conference for the Campaign regarding the “Access to Asylum “.
The Campaign for "Access to Asylum " in Greece has conducted several autopsies in six detention centers as well as in police detention facilities since the beginning of 2014. During the aforementioned autopsies, the responsible discussed not only with the police, but also with the detainees and prisoners, including minors, and found a number serious prisoners' rights violations, both in terms of access to asylum and of their conditions of detention.
The main outcome of these autopsies is the fact that in Greece, access to Asylum is still problematic. The conditions of detention regarding refugees and migrants, including minors and extremely vulnerable cases, are extremely hard, inhuman and humiliating (the latter has been also judged by the European Court of Human Rights), they become even more unbearable due to the unacceptable practice of many months of detention, which now exceed the legal allowable limit of eighteen (18) months.
A press conference is going to be organized tomorrow, Thursday, October 23, 2014, at 12.00, in the hall of the Athens Bar Association (Academy 60), regarding the announcement of the results and in particular the recommendations to the authorities. PRAKSIS, as a member organization of the initiative, invites you to attend this press conference.
