European task force of the civil society for migration and development issues

Few days ago PRAKSIS was appointed by the Greek Platform for Development to represent Greece in the new born task force with central issues migration and development. This is a new instrument of CONCORD that will elaborate a seria of issues concerning those great topics in european level. Here are some points and issues raised during the first meeting:

  • We must defend human mobility as a fundamental right. Individuals want to move, and they have always done so.
  • We should ask for more solidarity in the EU; a more inclusive policy-making (especially involvement of CSOs and migrants organizations).
  • We fight against a security approach to EU migration policies and we want to promote the Human Rights Based Approach and PCD as key tools to improve these policies.
  • We need to show links with other topics, like climate change.

Human traffickers and smugglers should be combated but the fight against trafficking is used to justify stricter controls.

What do we mean by development in migration and development? Eradicating poverty, or governance, enabling environments, policies, etc.?

We need a policy approach to show the impacts of EU policies in the lives of the people.

Our principles

  • Free of charge provision of Social Services and Primary Health Care in the areas of therapy and prevention
  • Promotion of solidarity and volunteerism
  • Testimony and per case denunciation of the condition of social groups in danger

Respecting the principles of accountability and transparency, we publish the last biennial report our actions.
